Friends of ¡Mas! Update 5

Friends of ¡Mas! - update 5

¡Mas! Is still doing incredibly well and is more than half-way there!  As of 5am this morning they only have 1008 NM to finish and have sailed 1108 NM so far!  They are literally in the middle of the ocean.  This mornings update contained some duplicate information, I am guessing they are quite tired and just making sure we know what is going on.  Keep praying for sun - so we can keep getting updates, and so the guys can dry out a bit too.

Received at 0825 hours, July 17th

"Update from team mas. Power consumption continues to be a issue. For one the Sun will not come out and play, maybe 2 hours so far this trip, charging thru the clouds sucks like 1/3 the output of normal. Secondly we found out on of our solar panels shit the bed, so we have 1/2 the potential input we anticipated. So with these two issues we are limiting all electronic use, this means less check ins with the families and when we do I am piggy backing off of a required race check in. Also we are running without instruments during the day and just using the compass to steer by. We hope the sun will come out and play so we can both make phone calls home, but for now we are watching every amp. We have back up nav equipment so we will make Hawaii, just worried about the 1hr penalty if we miss a check in."

Cheers and GO ¡Mas!
